Weaver Estate Wines is a vineyard and winery located in the Alexandra Basin of Central Otago, with the first plantings in 2005. Our family has a long history in the area dating back to the 1860’s when Weavers first arrived in Alexandra following the Gold Rush of the time.
The single vineyard is 3.5ha, planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris & Pinot Blanc. We are fully accredited and operating under ‘Sustainable Winegrowing’ practices and all vineyard work is carried out by family & friends.
Our Winemakers Jess & Kilian are establishing our full winery on site, producing high quality wines, using new & innovative winemaking techniques and ideas gained through their travels and overseas wine experiences.
Jess Weaver, is the sixth generation of the family living in Central Otago and has a passion for winemaking. Jess completed a Bachelor degree of Viticulture & Oenology at Lincoln University.
Kilian Kleine-Tebbe, of Germany, is the partner of Jess and a qualified winemaker with numerous overseas vintage experiences, he has a focus on white wine production.
The Weaver family is very excited about working in this industry & aiming to produce the highest quality, hand crafted wines that express our unique site, just a stone throw from the Clutha River where our family mining claims once were.
Our unique site produces wines with very typical Alexandra fruit characteristics and flavours. The Central Otago region is known as the hottest & driest in the summer months, while being the coldest in the winter months of all New Zealand wine regions. It is also the region of the southern-most vineyards in the world, located at the 45th Parallel.
In September 2011 we opened the doors to our tasting room to the public, this is situated in our rustic shed at the vineyard.
